A reserve protecting the last unspoiled Dubai desert, ensuring it will exist for future generations.

Dubai is internationally renowned as a cosmopolitan city that offers its visitors a kaleidoscope of attractions, from endless shopping possibilities to a broad array of affluent hotels. It is also home to a truly phenomenal place, a desert – conservation project known as the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Sponsored by Emirates Airlines and initiated four years ago, this project has now reached fruition.

The project covers 225sq km, which is five per cent of Dubai’s land area. This is the largest area under protected area management in the Gulf, the only one of its kind in the Middle East and the largest land area ever dedicated to a single project in Dubai. The reserve operates as a National Park and gives visitors a truly extraordinary opportunity to watch a rich diversity of Arabian wildlife roam freely within its natural habitat. The project is an extension of successful conservation work carried out by Al Maha Desert Resorts, and Al Maha has progressively released wildlife into the DDCR over the past year. Within the DDCR, visitors are able to experience the rich heritage of the region, take in the vast wilderness and visit some of the working camel farms that still operate within it.

And it is not just the wildlife that will take your breath away. The awe-inspiring dune landscapes will be imprinted on your mind along after your trip has ended. The importance of preserving this national heritage has been of the utmost importance to the DDCR. It has limited the number of visitors to ensure that this stunning desert remains unspoiled. You certainly be able to look upon your visit as a privilege.

There can be no better place to enjoy this magical experience than the Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa, an idyllic, private oasis set within the heart of the desert. Winner in 2004 of the world’s premier conservation prize, the World Legacy Award, created by Conservation International and National Geographic Traveler magazine, it is not only a luxurious resort that prides itself on providing the highest standards of service, but also the central point of overall responsibility for the operations of the new Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. This is an ideal base from which you can explore the wonders of the Dubai Desert.
